No question: the year-round Santa Monica sunshine is one of the best parts of living here. But between the constant UV exposure and the activities that tend to accompany it (think: floating in chlorinated pools, surfing through saltwater), your hair is particularly prone to damage. To prevent your standard split ends from escalating into something more drastic, try these Séchoir-approved products and tips for restoring your hair health in no time.

EAT RIGHT

It’s no secret that eating well can improve your health—but you might not have realized that it also extends to your hair health, too. Maintain a diet rich in omega-3 fatty acids, which are most commonly found in fish including salmon and sardines (or flax and chia seeds, for the vegetarians among us). Make sure to get lots of protein—crucial for forming and maintaining strong hair—from healthy sources like Greek yogurt and lean white meat. And of course, load up on delicious fresh produce, which is full of crucial vitamins and minerals. We’re lucky to have plenty of it in southern California!

CLEANSE GENTLY

Many shampoos contain sodium lauryl sulfate (SLS), a detergent and foaming agent that is also used on heavy machinery (read: not hair-friendly). WASH LESS
